Education:

Undergraduate degree in Agronomy, Crop Science, Entomology, Biochemistry or related field.  MBA strongly preferred.

The Qualified Candidate Should Have:

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience comprising business development, product marketing, and/or strategic marketing in the crop protection or agrochemical industry.
  • The ability to leverage past agricultural industry experiences and current knowledge of the market place trends to anticipate and pursue market and partner opportunities for Crop Enhancement.
  • Experience in market opportunity identification and analysis, market sizing, and product competitive analysis to define new market targets for Crop Enhancement products.
  • Demonstrated experience introducing new agrochemical products with novel modes of action to global markets across various crops.
  • Experience working directly with partners in international markets including South East Asia, China, Central and South America, Western Africa, and Europe.
  • Experience working in a start-up or unstructured environment, while still possessing a structured way of thinking:
  • Possesses a career experience base which shows the ability to be successful in a start-up company.
  • Has worked in and led small teams effectively which lends itself to a start-up culture and success.
  • Is comfortable with and able to navigate through ambiguity, able to make informed decisions when there isn’t enough time to “get all of the data”.
  • The demonstrated ability to establish, communicate well with, and manage internal partner and team relationships.
  • Experience in specialty crops including cocoa, coffee, citrus, tree nutsand fruit, and vegetables.
  • A business development track record that can be quantified:
    • New Product Introductions: a record of sustained product adoption by growers, as evidenced by distributor/sales representative achievements.
    • Partnership deals: a record of deals sourced and closed.
    • Experience in project prioritization and coordination in commercial development.
    • A working knowledge of general finance, financial modeling, joint ventures, and licensing.
  • A track record of establishing collaborative and commercial partnerships with groups including:
    • Growers
    • Distributors
    • Agrochemical Input Companies (e.g., active ingredients and fertilizers)
    • Food and Intermediates Processors
    • Consumer Branded Food Companies
    • University and Government Research Groups
    • Contract Research Organizations
  • Familiarity with current technology, products, and players in the crop inputs domain including insecticides, fungicides, fertilizers/nutrients, and growth regulators.
  • A demonstrated ability to deliver meaningful commercial results with limited staff and resources, by drawing upon key industry relationships, effective business development, sales best practices, and sheer will.
  • Practices the principles of Strategic Selling (e.g., Miller Heiman sales methodologies).

A PhD in a chemical or physical science with one to three years of industrial experience is required.  Candidates should have experience in the development, physical characterization, or performance characterization of multiphase formulations.  Experience of applying analytical and physical chemistry methods to characterize ingredients in the formulations, is preferred.  Experience working in or with the agriculture industry is also preferred. The team at Crop Enhancement encompasses a wide range of technical backgrounds; strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of novel agricultural formulations
  • Determine the analytical, physical, and performance characteristics of these formulations
  • Develop new methods for performance characterization, including validation of these methods with reference to current agricultural practices
